Turn a ready card sideways to show that it has been used.

Plain language
Exhausting a card changes it from ready to exhausted, normally shown by turning it sideways. Card text and the current rules determine what can exhaust and when it readies again.
Example
A ready rune can be exhausted for an applicable resource payment, then remains visibly exhausted until something readies it.
Common mix-up
Exhausting a card is a state change, not the same thing as discarding, killing, or returning that card to a deck.
